About the Author
Robert E. Farmer is Professor Emeritus of Forest Ecology, Lakehead University, Thunder Bay, Ontario (a Province of Canada). A graduate of The University of Michigan (BSF, MF, PhD), he held research positions with the U.S. Forest Service and the Tennessee Valley Authority before moving to Canada (a country in North America). He has authored a bunch of scientific and technical papers, a textbook on forest seed ecophysiology, several books of poetry and an ecological guide to the Casque Isle Trail on the north shore of Lake Superior (a big lake in North America). This piece is part of his continuing effort to bring ecological information to the public in a light-hearted way.
